KAYAN and Chapman Services combined forces to create a unique Hydrocarbon Extraction Technology (HET).  The technology was created for hydrocarbon extraction from tar Sands but can be utilized in many hydrocarbon recycling applications.  The technology is currently patent pending but has already been through a rigorous Proof of Performance (POP).  The POP was a huge success not only proving extraction abilities but also proving that extraction of hydrocarbons from tar sands is possible without water.  Therefore, it created a “Green Scenario” for operators of our technology.  The largest problem with hydrocarbon extraction operations right now is the environmental impact. The KAYAN system is totally enclosed so there are no secondary waste streams created.  The total enclosure also enables full utilization of energy created during the process thus cutting cost and creating an emissions-free set up.

Our joint technology will eliminate the need for water during extraction and most emissions. It takes three barrels of water to extract one barrel of oil. More than 400 million gallons of water per day ends up dumped in toxic tailing pools.  According to a recent Environmental Defense report, tailing ponds leak approximately 3 million gallons of contaminated water each day.  Tar Sands operation in Canada are allowed to draw 349 million cubic meters (or 12.3 billion cubic feet) of water annually. This is twice the amount of water consumed by the entire city of Calgary. Approximately 82% of the water comes from an already dwindling Athabasca River.
